I have been debating when to start T on solids for a few weeks. On the one hand she was showing all of the readiness signs, and we had gotten the OK from her pediatrician at the beginning of October. On the other hand, I wanted to make sure it was the right time, since I keep reading about research saying waiting until 6 months is ideal. After my little girl grew increasingly hungry both during the day and at night we finally decided that starting a couple weeks earlier than 6 months wouldn't be the end of the world. Every baby is different, so while some aren't ready until 6 months, some may be ready at 4. She was a little over 5 months. I figure as long as I am diligent that she doesn't decrease her breast milk intake, she will be fine. So Teagan had her first solids (rice cereal) on Sunday. She has been trying some every night this week. It's a slow process. She doesn't hate them, but she is taking time to figure out what to do. Tonight was the first night that she really seemed interested in eating more. She is still only eating a teaspoon of the rice cereal at a time (1/4 tsp of cereal w/ 3/4 tsp milk). Tonight when she finished that and seemed to want more, we heated up a cube of the squash baby food I had made and frozen a week or two ago. T tried a couple spoonfuls. She even managed not to make too many sour puss faces. We'll keep you posted on her new adventures in eating as she tries more things! Hopefully she has her Mother's willingness to try new foods and not her Father's picky eating habits!
