Ok, now for a verbal vacation recap. We left home around 2pm on Tuesday afternoon and headed to Northern VT. We arrived around 9pm after a fairly uneventful ride. Everyone was ready to get out of the car though. We finally got the kids settled and to bed and we followed them shortly after. Teagan was up at 7am and I could hear the pitter patter of her feet downstairs as I woke up. She was so excited about the lake and the toys and being somewhere new (she's been there 3x before but not since she was 2 so I don't think she remembers).
Wednesday was the 4th of July, and our company included G&G and Uncle Mike and Neil. Teagan had the Grandma filling the kiddie pool bright and early. By late morning she was swimming in the lake and loving every minute. Teagan and Matt went for a kayak ride too. Declan had a blast too just wandering around and exploring the new surroundings. There was an afternoon storm that had us inside for a bit but afterwards both of the kids were outside to play and back in the lake. Thursday was Teagan's first time fishing and she enjoyed looking for worms and waiting for a bite. It's pretty shallow off the dock, so the little tiny fish just nibbled the worms off the hook and weren't big enough for a real bite. Melissa and Josh arrived late Thursday night. Friday we swam more and just generally relaxed and visited. Mike and Neil left first thing Saturday morning.
Saturday was pretty windy and we never made it back into the lake. We did go for an afternoon hike on an old railroad bed and later went out for ice cream in St. Albans. The grownups had maple soft serve and Teagan opted for a chocolate-vanilla twist with sprinkles. The servings were so big that they were melting before we could eat them. Declan had his mouth open for anyone who would shove ice cream in it. We enjoyed several nice sunsets and played around doing some fun silhouette photos. Saturday night we had a late dinner and as we were finishing around 9pm there were fireworks starting over the lake. There were several spots all across the bay where you could see fireworks for about half and hour. Photos were tough without a tripod but I managed to snag a few. Teagan got a mani/pedi from Grandma one day and french braided pigtails from Salon de Auntie Melissa another day. Declan learned to say "more" and we also thought we heard "bib" and "blanket" and he makes a distinct hand motion for "all done".
The kids had a blast and Matt and I got in some nice family and relaxation time. We headed home after lunch Sunday and didn't get in until 8:30. The ride wasn't horrible but I wish it was shorter! Overall it was a fun trip and I am sure the kids are counting down until they can return.
