Little Chomper

We took the plunge - with just days until Declan turns 6 months we started him on solids.  I had started making some food batches (sweet potatoes and peaches) so sweet potatoes were up on the menu first!  He was cranky getting put in the high chair so I didn't have high hopes.  And big sister had a meltdown over wanting to help (and by help I mean do it herself).  But he actually stopped crying for each bite of food and only fussed in between.  Overall it was a success.  He repeated today with sweet potatoes and did well - it's not like he is gobbling it down just yet but he isn't refusing it either!  Matt said he didn't miss this stage but I love it!!!

A few more days of sweet potatoes and we are on to food number two...peaches perhaps?  I have a batch of pears cooking now and will make some squash tomorrow.  Then comes some green stuff (green beans, peas).  At some point we'll squeeze in foods he can eat fresh like banana and avocado.  Each of the batches makes 30-50 servings of food that go in the freezer so as I found when Teagan was a baby I only had to make one batch of each type and then pull from the freezer.  Before they even ran out she was over purees and on her way to table foods and chunkier foods anyway (but I'd rather make one master batch than have to re-make in a month or two).

Here is the photo sequence of events:

waiting for the big moment

first taste...hmmm.....what is this?

Big sister = big helper once she stops screaming and realizes everyone can help!!!

Such a sweet moment...makes my Mama heart melt

The verdict - not bad!
