Oahu, Hawaii Trip - Day 8: Urgent Care, Swap Meet, Dole Plantation & Greta's Birthday!

Day 8, Wednesday, started with a trip to the Pearl City Urgent Care.  We knew that we couldn't beat the strep throat without meds and it seemed silly for Matt to keep suffering through vacation.  Luckily there was no wait and the doctor confirmed that he had a bad infection.  He was shocked to see Matt's throat so swollen, he referred to it as kissing tonsils because they were so swollen they were touching.  He perscribed some meds and we went to Walmart and got them filled.  After lunch at C&N's, we went for a drive so our kids could nap, and so Greta could nap undisturbed at home.

Poor sick Matt

Since napping at home had been unsuccessful for Teagan most days, we decided to take a drive to get her to nap.  We were headed to the Aloha Stadium swap meet.  At the stadium, where the Pro Bowl is played, there is a swap meet every Weds, Sat, and Sun.  On the road that goes around the stadium, vendors set up tents for everything under the sun.  Jewelry, home decor, lots and lots of aloha wear, souvenir t-shirts, artwork, photography - the list goes on!  You name it, they sell it!  I bought a shell and beaded bracelet, and we got some t-shirts for ourselves and the kids - 7 for $20, you can't beat it.

Since it was Greta's 2nd birthday we wanted to do something fun for her and the kids on her special day.  We decided the Dole Plantation was a quick, easy, and fun stop.  They have a train ride, the Pineapple Express.  We walked around waiting for our train ride time and watched some crazy fish in the pond.  They are very used to being fed so they swarm to the edge when people throw in fish food.  When we arrived at the plantation there was a gorgeous rainbow on the horizon, and for the rest of the day we saw rainbows everywhere.

After the train ride we went to the gift shop to get a sweet treat - a pineapple whip!  It's basically a pineapple flavored soft serve and you can get fresh pineapple on top if you choose.  As a pineapple lover, I was in heaven with this treat!  We checked out the gift shop which had a lot of cute stuff but nothing we needed.  Then we headed to run a few last minute errands because it was time to celebrate Miss Greta's 2nd birthday!

Naomi made mac n cheese for Greta's birthday dinner and then we had a party for her.  She chose a Backyardigans theme so there were masks, party hats, plates, napkins, balloons and a birthday banner.  Then we watched her open her gifts which she seemed to like.  There were lots of goodies and Teagan was patient with letting Greta open and not getting jealous.  Then it was time to whisk the kids off to bed because it was already so late.
