In May, Matt and I travelled to Las Vegas for a few days. It was our first big trip without the kids. Declan was over a year, finally sleeping through the night, and recently weaned so the timing was right for Mama to get out of town and have some independence. Matt had a work-related conference/trade show to attend so we jumped at the chance to tack on an extra plane ticket and make the best of it. We arrived late morning on a wednesday and returned saturday morning, arriving home around dinner time. The flights were uneventful, one might even say peaceful since I read a book and listened to music and soaked up not having kids on my lap, numerous potty breaks, and constantly doling out snacks. We were accompanied by one of Matt's coworkers for the Vegas-bound flight. Once there, we checked into the Las Vegas Hotel and then met up with some vendors who were taking us to the conference which was at the convention center. After a few hours of attending the conference we all headed to the strip to walk around a little and meet up for a dinner at Stack at the Mirage. On the way to the Mirage, Matt and I enjoyed a half-yard frozen margarita, Vegas style!
On the second day we hit up the hotel buffet for breakfast and then met up at the convention center again for a few hours. Luckily everyone decided that was enough lighting talk for the day (and I had a bag of freebies weighing down my shoulder) so we got changed and headed back to the strip and met up with one of the vendors and his wife for a pool-side lunch at Caesars. It was nice to relax in the shade and people watch and just chat a bit. After a while we had to head to a reception that a vendor was hosting at the Mirage, which was hors d'oeuvres and an open bar. It was boring, so luckily the group we were with wanted to go get a real meal. We went to BB King's Blues House and had some nice BBQ. After that we had another hosted event at The Foundation Room on the top floor of the Mandalay Bay which is at the far end of the strip. The view was spectacular! We only hung around about an hour, even though the food spread and open bar were tempting - the jet lag and hours upon hours on our feet for two days were catching up with us.
Friday we were on our own. We went to the buffet at the Bellagio which was SO good and then did some tourist stuff...just walked down the strip, watched the Bellagio water show, looked for souvenirs for the kids, and took in the sights. We bought tickets for the Blue Man Group show that night at a discount tickets outlet. We had planned to go back to the dinner buffet at Bellagio since the breakfast was so good, but because it was Mother's Day weekend it was very crowded for a special buffet they were hosting, so we ended up at the Mirage Buffet which was a little disappointing but not too bad. We went to the Blue Man Group show and when we arrived found out we had front row seats. It was a good show and we only got a little splashed from the performance. We crashed into bed and were up before dawn to make the trip back to the airport to catch an early flight. I was missing the kids like crazy by that point so while we had a lot of fun, I just wanted to make it safely back to them and squeeze them tight!
